It is possible to perform an upgrade from Windows 7 directly to Windows 10. There are some considerations to be aware of if your Windows 7 machine has NetSupport School installed.

When installing NetSupport School onto a Windows 7 operating system, a NetSupport LSP is installed with the Tutor or Student component. The NetSupport LSP (NSLSP.dll) is used to apply the website restrictions enforced from a NetSupport Tutor Console.

On a Windows 10 machine, the LSP component is no longer installed with NetSupport School and instead a Web filter driver is installed to apply the website restrictions. After performing an in-place upgrade of Windows 7 to Windows 10, the NetSupport LSP component will be included when it is no longer needed.

If you are planning to or have already performed an in-place upgrade of a Windows 7 machine (with NetSupport School installed) to Windows 10, you can prevent the NetSupport LSP from being applied to Windows 10.

Planning an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10
We recommend you uninstall NetSupport School before upgrading to Windows 10.

Once NetSupport School has been uninstalled, restart the machine and perform the upgrade to Windows 10. After the upgrade is complete, you can reinstall NetSupport School.

Already upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10
If the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 has already been performed, we recommend uninstalling NetSupport School and rebooting to uninstall the NetSupport LSP component. Then reinstall NetSupport School and this will install without applying the NetSupport LSP component.

Note: If you have experienced network connectivity issues on your machine after the upgrade and this is related to the NetSupport LSP component, running the following command will allow you to reset the Winsock. This in effect will remove the NetSupport (and any other third-party) LSP component restoring the machines network connection:

  1. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.
  2. Run the command: NETSH WINSOCK RESET
  3. Restart the machine.
